Rotary international starts with their members—people who work tirelessly with their clubs to solve some of our communities' toughest challenges. Their efforts are supported by Rotary International, our member association, and The Rotary Foundation, which turns generous donations into grants that fund the work of our members and partners around the world. Rotary is led by our members—responsible leaders who help to carry forward our organization's mission and values in their elected roles.

One of the toughest challenges facing the UK is food poverty. With an enormous figure of over 13 million living below the poverty line. Furthermore with 1 in 5 people living in poverty with many families in crisis and unable to afford food, Rotary are  working in association with Sure Start Edenballymore to provide a food bank for all Londonderry/ Derry City Residents. Rotary are committing themselves to help families and young people living in poverty find a way out of their financial difficulties and to realise their potential through signposting services through the Rotary-Foyle Food Bank.

Rotary International have 1.2 million neighbours, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world.  It is believed by opening a food bank within the city it can create a positive and lasting change to the residents of Londonderry/ Derry.

The purpose of the Rotary-Foyle Food Bank is to reduce food waste and provide access to emergency food all year around to families in need. According to the department of work and pension ‘3.8 million children in the UK live in poverty’.  The sad truth is that food banks are becoming an essential part of every community.
